Printer sharing on a home network will not working

I have a HP printer connected to a computer with windows 98. I have another
computer with windows XP. I have done the network wizard on the XP and did
the floppy disc on the 98. The network is working fine to transfer files but
I cannot get the printer to work. I have done all the printer sharing check
boxes on the 98 and the printer shows a hand under it. The issues are when I
add a printer in XP using the wizard I browse and have to do a root directory
to find the printer. When I select the printer the path is \\Pavillion\\HP
930. I think it should be \\workgroupe\\Pavillion\\HP930. The reason I say
this is because when I go to print it takes the print job but does not print.
I think it gets lost because of the root directory not being correct. Am I
right and what should I do?
One more thing I should mention is I have done a trouble shooting help and
the answer is the network is not working, but like I said I have pinged the
other computer and it is OK and the file sharing is working.
Any help would be greatly appreciated since I have been working on this for
a week now.

Thanks

No...it's always \\computername\sharename.

No, as per above. If you go to \\computername (the 98 box) in Explorer on
the XP box, and then see the printer share, and right-click on it and choose
Connect, what happens?

See if the above helps. Also, you may need to tell XP what drivers to use -
so if the above doesn't work, use the add printer wizard, navigate to
\\computer\printershare , and then load the correct XP driver, which you may
want to download from the HP website.

When you add a network printer to the XP computer the Path should be \\(host
computer name here)\(printer name here)

Lanwrench,
Thank you, reinstalling the printer driver from XP solved the problem. This
was the first time I solved a problem with this chat room that did not
require me to rewrite script in the reg.THANK YOU !!!

River rat, Thanks the wizard would only allow me to use the host computer and
the printer name. The problem was resolved by reinstalling the printer
drivers with XP. Per Lanwrench.
Thanks again
