printer port problems with xp and hp officejet printer

Hello,
I installed windows xp on my computer not knowing that my
officejet g55 would not be compatible. I cleared off all
the drivers and other information and tried installing
the updated driver from hp for windows xp. Nothing
worked. I checked my printer port under device manager
and it is labeld LPT3 instead of LPT1, It has this
message in it, This device is disabled because the
firmware of the device did not give it the required
resources. (Code 29) What can I do to get this printer
working. I tried changing the name of the port to LPT1
but still have the same message. I have a COM1 and COM2
port that says are working but I can't make them LPT1.
What do I do to get this working. The HP support was of
no help. Please email suggestions to my email address
since I don't know if I will be able to find this
newsgroup again. Thanks
