Printer pack-up!

My HP Deskjet 820CXi was working fine ( I know it's old!) connected to my XP
Home system. Then I had a crash, had to reinstall/repair Windows (without
re-formatting), and now the printer starts to work, then stops after about
15secs.

I'm wondering if it's a spooling problem? I can't re-install the HP drivers
as HP haven't got any updates 'yet' because the printer is old. The original
floppy's won't work either.

Don't suggest buying a new printer! This is on the cards, but not just
yet-hopefully!!!

I have an old Canon BJ10ex printer that XP has the drivers for, so it
probably also has the drivers for that printer, which is much more recent.

I would delete it as follows (from Help and Support):

To delete a printer
To delete a printer, you must have the Manage Printers permission, which is
one of several printer permissions.

Open Printers and Faxes [in the Control Panel].
Right-click the printer you want to delete.
Click Delete.
If prompted whether you are sure you want to delete the printer, click Yes.

Notes

To open Printers and Faxes, click Start, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Printers and Faxes.
You can also delete a printer in Printers and Faxes by clicking the printer,
and then clicking Delete this printer under Tasks on the left side of the
window. This option is available only if folders are set to look like a Web
page and a printer is selected.

If it is a Plug and Play device, rebbot and XP will reinstall it. If not
reboot and then add a printer by using the option under Printers and Faxes.

The printer drivers should be part of the XP install CD. Delete the printer
from "Printers and Faxes" section and then re-do "Add Printer".
