Printer Out of Memory

I am operating Windows XP on a Compaq PC with an HP
Laserjet 5P printer and HP Deskjet 3280, which never gave
me any trouble. When trying to print invoices and
documents, the Laserjet 5P printer showed a paper jam,
although there was no paper jam. After going to control
panel and clicking on printers, I discovered that both
printers (HP Laserjet 5P and HP Deskjet 3280) showed "Out
of Memory". I deleted the Deskjet 3280 and tried it on
another computer and everything printed fine. I had a
really hard time deleting the HP Laserjet 5P. I had to
keep trying to delete and then re-start my computer
several times in order to get it to delete the printer.
After deleting all printers, I re-installed the HP
Laserjet 5P. After printing 4-5 documents, I got the same
problem (paper jam although there was none and "Printer
out of Memory). I have again deleted the printer and
there are none currently installed.

Do you have any suggestions/advice? Any prompt response
would be greatly appreciated as I run a business from my
home and I really use the Laserjet 5P alot.

Thank you,
Kelly

I don't have a 5P, but on some older HP printers, the driver doesn't
automatically know how much memory is installed in the printer. In this
case, the driver defaults to the minimum RAM setting. This may not be
enough to print complex documents.

Try printing a test page _from the printer_ (i.e., not from Windows).
That should tell you how much RAM is actually installed. Then check the
printer properties and see if the reported memory is correct. If not,
correct it and see if that helps the problem. Otherwise, you might be
better off seeking help at HP.
