That's Murphy's Law for you. Try to do something that you
shouldn't and invariably you will have a problem and get
caught. Most printers that have an automatic stop on toner
out will pick up right where it left off when the toner is
replaced.
Depending on how your printer is connected (network, printer
server, or direct connect) simply turning off the printer
may flush its cache. If it is a network printer this
probably won't work.
Just be there when someone else at work replaces the toner.
