Printer installation problem

Using the add a printer wizard, installing a Canon BJC-
600, when asked to select the port, LPT1 is not shown or
any port for that matter, is not shown as an option. The
create a port box is grayed out, not selectable. I can
run the DIR>LPT1 from command line and make the printer
respond. Help?
 
Is the LPT port enabled in the BIOS and set to EPP?

Is it shown in the Device Manager.... and under its port settings, is Enable
Legacy Plug and Play checked for it?
