Printer icon does not show up in the notification area

Is there anything special I need to do to get the printer
icon to show up in the notification area when printing to
a network printer. It shows up when printing to a local
printer, but not a net a network printer. The printer
icon still shows up in the system tray on the NT boxes we
have left. The file server is stil NT 4.0 sp6a. The
printers are all HP's with JetDirect cards.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

It might not show up for very long. It seems that the icon will be present
until the printer or print server has received the data, then it may go away
with certain printer drivers. An error message may cause a message or icon
to appear, or may not.

If a Firewall is enabled, the notification traffic will be blocked

Make sure the client has notification for network printers enabled in
Printers Folder / File / Server Properties / Advanced

Thank you for the response. Firewall is not enabled and
notification for network printers is enabled. The
printer icon showed up by default on NT, but since
upgrading to XP, the printer icon no longer shows when
print jobs are sent. I guess its not a big deal. There
are other ways to look at the queue. But if you have any
other thoughts, they would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric W.
