printer - general question re USB port

I don't have a problem per se but I do find this interesting.

I'm running Visat Home Premium and have two USB ports on the front of my
computer and a handful on the back. If I use the front right USB port to
print, there are no problems. If I use the left front USB port, I get
nothing. This isn't a major issue as I will now just use the right front
USB port for printing. (Because of space limitation in my present set up, I
only connect the printer when I actually need to print and therefore I use
the front USB port to conncet since it is much more accessible.)

Is this typical behavior for one USB port to work with a printer and another
not to? BTW, both front USB ports work just fine with USB sticks so the
port in that respect is working as it should. Educate me, please.

I have used devices such as Guitar Port whereby I've had to install the
driver software again if I change which usb port I plug it into at the
front. Have you tried installing the most recent driver software when the
printer is plugged into the front left usb port - given that your usb sticks
work in both ports it might be ?

You might as well keep the printer connected by usb cable, if you need more
ports, and have a free PCI slot then get yourself a 4 port usb PCI card.

Dave, the driver for my printer (Brother 1240) is already included in
Vista's operating system; that information was even confirmed at Brother's
web site.

I have more than enought USB ports, I just found this interesting and was
wondering if this was common. Thanks, DH
