Printer driver - runtime errors

I successfully installed the software for my Canon MP460 MFD & started using
it. Then a week or so later I tried to print something, & found the printer
name & icon greyed out. It said printer driver not installed. Tried to
reinstall from disk & got runtime error (PROGRAM ERIVERX86DRVSETUPSETUP.EXE -
abnormal program termination). Same from website download. The disk doesn't
give an uninstall option - when I try to remove the program, I get a longer
runtime error (FAD5-9546-44f3....). Nothing I try seems to make any
difference.

What Had I Done (Knowingly) Since First Installing it?
Downloaded Windows Defender & numerous Windows Updates (I had previously not
had them, going back ages, despite Automatic Update being set). A recent
Update included IE7.

What Have I Tried?
1) Reinstalling & Uninstalling as above, having disabled Defender, Norton
Antivirus & Windows Firewall. 2) System Restore back to pre-IE7, Defender &
Updates, & pre-original installation. 3) Moved to NOD32 Antivirus, as this
was recommended as being more powerful than Norton. Did initial scan, which
found & removed some Trojans & Adware. 4) Installed again from Canon website.
5) Replaced USB cable with new (2.0). 6) Removed everything I could using
Add/Remove Programs. 7) Deleted everything I could find referring to Canon
from the registry (having backed up, & with guidance). Restarted after all of
these. All antivirus etc were disabled as per standard instructions, & all
Canon instructions followed.

Still get 'FAD5-9546-44f3...' runtime error when trying to uninstall program
Canon MP460, & 'PROGRAM ERIVERX86DRVSETUPSETUP.EXE' runtime error when trying
to install. Still no joy – can anyone help?

I seem a similar problem where the drivers added a "toolbar" to the
Internet Explorer but this "toolbar" was not compatible with Internet
Explorer. (BTW: it was a Canon printer and I believe it was the
"Canon Easyprint" toolbar. If it was installing in IE 6 and you
upgrade to IE 7, it was working. But it can not be installed into
Internet Explorer 7 directly.)

Hmmm...

It DID go wrong after I'd upgraded to IE7 - any idea how I get around it
(i.e. uninstall & start again)? I can quite happily NOT install the
'Easy-Print' toolbar...

Just unstall the Canon toolbar.
