Printer communication error after reinstallation

Hello all, hope someone can help resolve this issue. I am (was) using an
Epson Stylus CX6400 all-in-one. There was a problem with (or so Epson folks
thought) the Smart Panel, so they suggested to uninstall the works and
reinstall. I did just that, now I can't get the printer to communicate with
the computer; I tried uninstalling and reinstalling four times to no avail.
Some file (s) must have been damaged or something , or a screwup in the
registry keys. The device itself is working fine as I installed it on my
son's laptop and it worked wthout a problem. OS Windows XP Pro SP2. Your help
would be greatly appreciated

Problem solved. It was the driver, I got lucky, I domnloaded the driver from
the Epson web page as I wasn't able to do so previously,(that's another
problem I'm having, downloading files from the internet, but this a question
for a different newsgroup), I installed it, it worked !! I was trying to
install the driver from the CD that came with the printer and for some reason
it did not work. I hope posting this may help somebody with a similar problem
