Printer banding

Could someone tell me what causes printer banding. I understand one can
do the self cleaning utility etc. Say in the case of an HP is it the
wire ribbon to the contacts which the ink cartridge interface ??. If
you put in a new cartridge and get the same problem went doing photos or
html but not is ASC text ....Yes I am missing something. Hope someone
can clear things up for me.

Banding is often caused by a dirty roller or a pressure problem, like a
worn out or broken spring, gear, or a paper thickness setting that's too
loose. Essentially what happens is that the page doesn't move up
properly.

If the total height of the printed image is remaining the same it's more
likely gear play, but if the total image height is shorter then it's more
likley one of the other problems.
