I have a small network consisting of :
Laptop running XP Pro (cable connected, uses DHCP to get IP address)
Laptop running XP Home (wireless, uses DHCP to get IP address)
Brother MFC420CN printer (cable connected, static IP address)
All are connected through a Linksys router.
The XP Pro machine has no problem accessing he printer until I use a VPN
dialer to access a network at work,
then I can no longer access the printer. The XP Home machine has it's own
printer at the moment, thought I'd
get one machine working with the Brother printer first.
I changed the default install to give the printer a static IP address but
this has not helped.
The network I VPN to does not allow external access, ie. I can't access the
XP Home machine by name but I can using
it's IP address when I'm connected via VPN (the need to do this is rare so
not a big problem). As soon as I exit the VPN
connection I can access it by name again. Does this have anything to do with
the acces to the printer being lost?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
