Print Spooler problem

Greetings:

I was at my wife's office the other day and I had to print some documents
and she has a Lexmark all-in-one so I loaded her Lexmark software to do the
printing. I printed the documents successfully and then removed the Lexmark
software using the control panel. Evidently I did not unlad everything
because Lexmark files would load on start-up. I finally identified the files
that were still on my computer and removed them manually and now my print
spooler is disabled. Could someone please tell me how to enable the print
spooler. I'm runing XP Pro and everything is up-to-date.

Hi cp,
Open RUn command type: services.msc and there enable printer spooler, if
that what you are after, if not see your printer settings, you can enable it
there.

Hi cpeavey,

When Lexmark printer software is installed, oftentimes it installs a service
(I believe it's called LEXBCS) upon which the Print Spooler service becomes
dependent instead of being dependent on the Remote Procedure Call service
(RPCSS). Unfortunately, when you uninstall the printer software the service
dependency does not revert back to RPCSS.

To change the dependency back to RPCSS, open a command prompt window and key
in the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command (it may take a
few second for each command to be successfully processed):

net stop spooler
sc config spooler depend= RPCSS
net start spooler
exit

I did as you suggested, tried to start the print spooler and keep getting the
error message:

Could not start the Print Spooler service on local computer.
Error 1068 The dependancy service or group failed to start.

Thanks,
Charles

Hi, doubt this will get checked, but just in case - I have a similar problem,
but tried your fix and still no success.
Have un-installed all lexmark software, so currently have no printers
installed.
When I try to install a printer, if the printer spooler service is running
it tells me "Operation could not be completed" (informative, huh?)
If I try again it then says "Operation could not be completed. The print
spooler service is not running).

Through some investigation using the Computer Management tool's Services
snap-in (which I am informed is the same as services.msc), I have found that
when the print spooler has been started, and I attempt to install a printer,
I get "Operation could not be completed" and the service appears to stop
itself. However, nothing appears in any of the three logs shown in the Event
Viewer to indicate what has happened or why.

Any assistance you could give me would be greatly welcome.

Click Start, Run, type SFC /SCANNOW and click OK. Maybe a damaged
system file is the cause..

Hello. I have same problem but when I do the command promppt lines you
mention above,ie the start net spooler etc,it just comes up with the same
message "error 1068",and i still cannot start tht print spooler service,What
can I do next? The only ither info I can give,is that the PC was once on a
LAN,where it had accesto the other PC's printer{a Cannon},could this have
some sort of priority over my PC adding its own printer?or is there anext
step I can take to get the print spooler working.THx for any info.

When I attempt this, either from start -> run, or from command prompt, I get
the following error dialog:

sfc.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc000007b). Click on OK to
terminate the application."
