print spooler gone

The print spooler is gone. I tried MS knowledge base
article 324757 but still no spooler. I tried to boot with
cd but when I select R (for repair) and the OS, it asks
for an administrative password and even though I didn't
have one, I set one up and tried entering it. But I can't
get it to accept password. So I can't get into Repair option.

Help!!!

You're accessing the Recovery Console (F2) and not the R for Repair option
which comes MUCH later on.

Boot from the XP CD..... ignore the F2 for the Recovery Console, go through
the F8 to accept the EULA. Windows will look for and find itself on the
hard drive and will then (and only then) offer a Repair Installation.

However, the first thing you should try to do is start the print spooler....

From the command prompt (from inside WindowsXP) type

net start spooler

(and remember to hit enter)

What make and model printer do you have? Have you uninstalled and
reinstalled it using the instructions at my website at:
http://www.coribright.com/Windows/Article One.htm

If it's a Lexmark printer, use the instructions at Bruce Sanderson's website
at:
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm
and pay particular attention to the specific section on Lexmark printers.
