Print Spooler Crashes When Printer is On

I can start the Print Spooler when my printer is off, but as soon as I turn
on the printer the print spooler crashes. When I restart the spooler, the
spooler crashes repeatedly as long as the printer is on.

The printer is an hp Laserjet 1012 and I have been using it for several
months without problems. I have already tried editing the registry. Do I
have to attempt a repair install of XP to fix this?

I think it may be a hardware problem. Since I first posted, I installed an
hp Deskjet 610c and was able to print to it, however, as soon as I turn on my
Laserjet 1012, the spooler crashes.

Have you tired deleting and reinstalling the printer?
