print server problems

Hello All,
I have configured a print server in a win2k3 environment, also win2k3 member
server. I am unable to attach printers across subnets. The printer server
can only process print request from client machines residing in the same
network segment as the print server. Does anyone know any possible reasons
for this?
What TCP/IP ports does the HP 4000/4100 printers use?
TIA,
Altria

Sounds like a name resolution issue. How are you handling Wins and Dns for
each subnet?

Hello Kevin,
I am running solely dns (no wins---win2k and above). I am able to access
machines on any subnet via network neighborhood but it does not allow me to
access the actual print server machine. It tell me that network location is
inaccessible but I am able to access other machines residing in the same
segment as well as other subnets. I am wondering should i run a dcpromo and
remove the AD from this server?
TIA,
Altria

Question - how are the printers attached to the network? Jet direct,
attached directly to the print server, other?

Can you ping the server where the printer shares reside? By name and or ip
address?

I would not run dcpromo - that is shooting the dark and probably won't do
anything to help. Approach it from first can I communicate with the server
and if not lets identify what that problem is.
