print pi in bold

I have a client who is inserting equations into Word 2000 using the Equation
Editor. When viewing the document the pi symbol appears bold - same in print
preview. When it prints, the pi symbol prints but not bold. Her department
recently got new network printers. Could this possibly be a print driver
issue?

The pi symbol in the Equation Editor comes from the Symbol font, which does
not have a bold variant. Word will simulate bold in the display but cannot
print it unless you choose "Print TrueType as graphics."
