Primary and Backup Domain Controllers

Questions:

Does a backup domain controller normally mirror the
primary domain controller?

If so, how do you verify it is working?
For instance, are the file systems the same? Or just
certain folders? I need to ensure our BDC is the same as
the PDC. The network admin before me is gone and now I
have to figure this out.

In the PDC/BDC realm, you have to enable replication -- either a push or
pull job. You can replicate just the account information, and/or one or
more critical sets of files.

In an AD environment, account/group/tree/forest object replication is
automatic, but you'd still need replication for other objects.
