It might depend on PASV vs ACTIVE mode and what sort of firewall the
other end was using.

That has been mentioned. As I'm behind a router, the server is set for
passive mode, and the port forwarding is limited to port 21. FileZilla
is cleared through ZAF. Others have said that some
router/firewall/software combinations have trouble passing through the
necessary information and/or permissions to fully establish the
connection. Over my head.

I personally have had mixed success myself -- my laptop connects fine
via dialup through a completely different ISP (as well as via my home
LAN); my work machine won't connect. Different people report different
levels of difficulty, as well -- some can't log on at all, others can
log on but can't get a directory. <shrug>

Essentially, I used some a.c.f. folks as testers for my setup. Apologies
if it caused any frustration.

PASV is specified by the client, not the server (Although the server
needs to support it) -- If clients request active mode, there is no way
within the protocol for the server to say "Use PASV instead", all the
server can do is refuse the port request, or more likely, accept it and
have it fail.

No worries, always appreciated.

Why not send it to www.yousendit.com ?

Files only stay on the YouSendIt server for a few days (and they limit
the number of downloads per file).

FYI. . . If I uploaded the PL2004 ISO on my dial-up connection the
beginning of the file would probably expire before I finished uploading
the tail end of the file. . . ;)

There's a lot of renewed interest in PL2005 and I'm still
sending out 2 links to last years ISO. However downloaders
of previous ISO's may need to be reminded to expect portions
of the content to be outdated and to check for current updates
or fixes.

Hi Ash,

That's a good point. I'll add some notes when I revise the 2006 CD web
page to show the download links for PL2004 and PL2005.

I cant login to it..I have a router and that nat firewall crap....

That blocks incoming connections. Connecting to an FTP server is an
outgoing connection. If you can't log in to an FTP server you have
some other problem (or the server has).
