very strange, I know!
I have several e-mail accounts, which have always worked in Outloook
2003/Express etc.
Therefore, I am aware of SMTP authentication, and the different server port
numbers.
problem is that I can receive, but I can't send.
I have a new PC (previously used Windows XP) and I am trying Windows Mail
for the first time....on Vista.
I am asked to log onto my server everytime that Mail tries to send out.
(Annoying!!)
This happens in all my accounts.
Shot in the dark....is it my new IP address.

Without seeing any error messages, my first guess would be an AntiVirus
scanner setup to scan email that's having a bad hair day, are you running
one?

As it is a brand new PC, I have six -months subscription left on my McAfee
Security Suite. I don't think that I have anything enabled, but the title of
the dialogue box that keeps asking me to Log into my accounts, has "Windows"
Security" on it. I don't have any other virus scanner on it.

You likely have email scanning installed/enabled, if you got McAfee bundled
with your new machine and McAfee is one of the three biggest troublemakers
in the world of Windows Mail. Disabling the email scanning is usually not
sufficient, thee normal cure is to uninstall McAfee, run their debris
removal tool to clean up the crud the uninstaller leaves behind, then do a
custom re-install where you can elect to NOT install any form of email
scanning.

oh, I see!!
Well, for 6 months at least, I'm stuck with McAfee. I will have a look at
Windows Live Mail. I'm looking for a nice e-mail client that can handle
several accounts, and as my new Pc had it installed when I dragged it out of
the box last Saturday, I was hoping to give it a run. My old office suite is
Office 2002, and I've decided that it's too much of a legacy application.

Ok, thanks for this.. I'll give it some thought.

I would not recommend installing Office 2002 because it can cause
problems in Vista. Office 2003 and later are fully compatible.

Give Windows Live Mail a try. If it turns out you don't like it, merely
uninstall, and Windows Mail will be back just as before.
