Previous Version Recovery

I had accidentally saved a word document as the same name as another document
which then it lose everything it had on it before.

Now i know theres a way to get a previous version of the file and use that
to get what i had lost, but for some reason the feature isnt on my computer.
Im currently running on Windows XP Professional.

Anyone know how to get that previous version?

If you saved a Word document as the same name as one previously - the
previous has gone, as it has been overwritten.
