I performed a new install on my existing hard drive. Is there any way to get
XP to recognize the programs on the hard drive in the old Programs folder?

In most cases, the applications need to be reinstalled. Stand-alone
applications (such as HijackThis, Irfanview) needs no installation though.

I was afraid that would be the answer. Then, how do I remove the programs
from the hard drive if I want to free up the disk space without them listed
in the Add/Remove programs list in control program. Will deleting the old
program file affect my new installation of XP?

David,

Did you perform a repair, or a clean install? If you've done a repair
installation, then most of your already installed programs should work fine.

Which folder are you referring to? Type CMD /K SET in Start, Run dialog to
know the Program Files path for the current installation of Windows.
