Preview Pane in Outlook

B

When a Folder is created in Outlook the Preview Pane, by
default, is on. This is a Security and Business risk. The
e-mail must be opened to Preview it which must make it
vunerable to Virus attack. Plus some Spam, if managed to
get through your checks, may have a dynamic link to a
dubious website, thus showing the opening page. It is the
company that has a responsibility to ensure their
personnel are not open to this, and so could be taken to
court.
Therefore, is there a Global Policy setting, or
something , that can used so that the Preview Pane is
switched off by default?

No, you can't. Note that besides the SPAM-concern there is no concern for
virus attacs as the Preview Pane doesn't allow code execution (Outlook 2000
and previous require an update for this). Opening the message is even more
dangerous in this case.

Outlook 2003 enables you to block Internet Pictures which makes making use
of the Reading Pane a total bliss (I just love that feature).

You can however create a shortcut to Outlook.exe with the /nopreview switch
but when people use other means to start Outlook the Preview Pane will be
available.
