preventing program from loading at start up

I should know this but i've forgotten. I recently
downloaded Quicktime so I could view a promo for the new
Sopranos season. Anyway, it now loads when I start up
and shows in the lower right corner. I dont want to
uninstall it but I dont want it auto loading and using up
resources. I thought when I had Windows 98 you did this
through Task Manager but that doesnt seem to be it now
that I have XP

Open QuickTime and go to Edit | Preferences | QuickTime Preferences |in the
drop down list go to Browser Plugin and uncheck QuickTime System tray icon

go through all the options menus in quicktime, i think there is (or at least
was in older versions) an option to not load at startup and to not show in
the systray. if not you can try msconfig and remove it from the startup
process that way.

Go to Start>run and type msconfig> on the start up tab uncheck quick time
box.
