Preventing email addresses from getting out

JC Home

Hi all,

I am running XP Home and use Outlook Express 6.0. I am concerned that my
email address is getting into the wrong hands since I am running broadband
and stay connected all the time. Is there any way to prevent this? If I
visit web sites, can they get the addresses configured in IE or OE?

Thanks

While that is a remote possibility, the real danger is in using your address
to sign into web pages, or that some site you use it one sells its list of
addresses to a spammer. Just like junk in the mailbox, once on the lists
there is little you can do to avoid it.

Pretty easy with the firewall I hope you are running. When
you leave the machine, just click the firewall to block all
traffic in/out. Where the command is located depends on the
firewall you use. If you aren't using a firewall, you need
to get one, and quickly. Pay or free, there are some good
ones, even the one in XP is "OK".
