prevent xp logon password prompt

T

Tony

The machine in question had several user accounts set up. All of the
accounts have been deleted except for one administrator account. When
the logon password prompt appears, the passord is left blank and I
click OK. Since there was never a password set I am allowed to logon.

How can I prevent the password prompt from appearing altogether?

Thanks for your help.

.. Go to the Start Menu and the Run box.
.. Type in the following:
control userpasswords2
.. now click OK
.. In the new Windows that appears select the account you wish to make the
primary logon.
.. Now uncheck the "Users must enter a username and password..." box.
.. Hit Apply and a dialog box will appear asking you to confirm the selected
users password.

Click OK.
The changes will work the next time you restart your computer.

Let me add to this that you should still set a password on the account.
There are security reasons for doing this even if the account will be
allowed to log on automatically.
