Press one key = several keys pressed

Hi all,

I want to reprogram my keyboard so when I press one key, it is as if i press
a lot of keys, like entering a sentence. For instace, when I press the 5 on
the keypad to the right of the keyboard, I get a sentence like "Killroy was
here". But I can not find how I can acomplish that. Does anyone know what I
need to do, or what I need to search.

You will find that the feature you want will not be available in Windows, for good reason.
If you did that, you could never use the keypad to type numbers again.
It is possible to use a combination of keys, such as "Ctrl + V" to paste, etc., but you would have
to be in a "full featured" word processor to make a sentence out of key strokes. In Microsoft Word
for example, you can set it so that if you type in "mpwg" it would convert it to
"microsoft.public.windowsxp.general" automatically.

PS I recommend you get and use a spell checker for your news reader.

What you are looking for is called a macro. Do you want this capability
for a particular application or for all applications? For example,
Microsoft Word has a built-in macro capability as well as automatic text
replacement.

There also are utility programs that enable keyboard macros. See
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=keyboard+macro&btnG=Google+Search

You can also get a "programmable keyboard" that has this capability
built in. See http://www.pcguide.com/ref/kb/layout/nonProg-c.html
Personally, I think that programmable keyboards are a bad idea -- they
always seem to do something other than what you want them to do -- but
you might like them as much as the author of the linked web page.

There's nothing in Windows that will do that. There may be macro
facilities in individual applications that will, you'll have to check
the help system or other documentation for the app you're using.

It's also possible that the driver for your keyboard has such a
facility. If so, you would probably access it via the Control Panel.
Or maybe there's an icon in the Notification Area (on the right end of
the Taskbar).

I remember one could easily make macros in Windows 3.* . I had used it
in late 1990s for alerting me in my office at 4:30 PM by playing a
qbasic sound file. I don't know why the macro facility was abandoned
in later versions of Windows.

It's Visual Basic now and you'll find it in the Office Apps.
