Preserve Formats in paste as default

I don't recall this always being the case, but with the latest powerpoint
(2003?) I am constantly annoyed by the loss of format information when I
copy text from one text item and paste it into another.

I can copy then "paste special" to maintain my font size etc., but it is
much quicker to CTL-C CTL-V may way around without multiple mouse clicks and
points.

Can someone enlighten me if there is either a) a default setting to maintain
my formatted text or b) a quick-key combo to do paste with formats retained.

Thanks so much

Ross.

c) and easy step to retain formatting of pasted material.

Smart tags were introduced in PowerPoint 2002. They allow for several
options when pasting (keep text only, keep source formatting, etc). When
you paste something into a presentation or on a slide, a smart tag will
appear. this little tag looks like the a price tag and is usually located
very near what you pasted. It will remain until you change something. If
you are not seeing this tag at all, click on Tools => Options => Edit and
make sure that 'Show paste options buttons' is selected.

Then, whenever you are pasting something in, just click on the keep source
formatting option from this tag.
