Preservation of date stamp when copying email to folder?

When archiving email received from a remote worker, they can be attached to
one email as Message
HTML:
files. If these are saved as attachements and then
'save attchments' is used in the file menu the date stamp is lost and the
appears at the date it was saved. The same happens when the Message[html]
files are fully opened and then saved by using 'copy to folder' in the File
menu - same thing happens. Can anyone help with this - is there some setting
under options or what?

Sorry, I can't help, but I have the same issue with Outlook. I used Outlook
Express for years, and commonly received messages saved as attachments in my
email, which I could then 'Move to Folder' and have the original message with
its proper date.

In Outlook, this does not seem to be possible. Using 'Copy to Folder' saves
the message with the current date/time, which means it is out of order in the
sorted list. However, if I open or reply to that message, the correct
original date/time is imbedded in the message.

I also notice that 'Move to Folder' is grayed-out when I try to save the
message in Outlook.... I wonder if that is a key point. I don't recall what
happened to the date/time in Outlook Express if 'Copy to Folder' was used
instead of 'Move...'

Would really appreciate an answer on this one, it is very disruptive to my
work flow.

Moving and copying between folders is not a problem for me either, I am
talking about saving a message received as an attachment within an email. I
have multiple people working on the same project, and sometimes a client will
send a request to the wrong person, so we have historically just forwarded
the client's email (as an attachment) to the correct person for response. If
there has been a time lapse, then the email is not correctly time/date
stamped and ultimately is out of sequence in a folder of multiple messages on
that project.

I'm using the Received Date. Now that I look at the choices, I guess I could
change my viewed columns and sort on Sent Date instead. The Sent Date seems
to be preserved in the newly saved email message. Not exactly what I would
like, but at least a workaround that I can use.

I use the received date field and forward as attachments maintain their
original received date/time when I place them in the mail folder using drag
and drop off the email message.

I haven't been using drag and drop, so thought maybe that was the difference;
but alas, no... I just tested and the Received Date still shows up as 'now'.

What version are you on? I am using 2003 SP2.

Thanks

it works for me on all versions.

What type of email account do you use?

Our email is POP3/SMTP on a local ISP. Is that what you meant?

Another tidbit: The original time/date stamp is retained on any messages
that are sent as attachments to me FROM an Outlook Express user, and also on
any that I send TO an Outlook Express user.

Thanks again for sticking with me on this, I would really like to get this
solved.
