Presenter View is selected but not displayed on primary monitor

I've been using Powerpoint 2003 at church to display worship choruses and
sermon notes for about a month without any problems. Earlier this week I
took the laptop home and did "Windows Update" and updated to AOL Version 9
(w/virus protection).

Today "Presenter View" would not show on my laptop screen. - The laptop is
set up for multiple monitors and on the "Set up show" menu, "show presenter
view" box is marked. I am able to view the slide show on the secondary
monitor but the "presenter view" is not visible on the primary monitor. I am
not able to skip slides, or see what slide is up next . . . The primary
monitor
just diplays the standard powerpoint screens as if i were in the process of
creating slides. The task bar at the bottom shows: "Microsoft Powerpoint"
and "Powerpoint Slide Show". If I click on anything, it thinks I want to
edit the slide currently on the screen (primary monitor)... and suspends the
slide show. To get back to the slide show I have to click on "Powerpoint
Slide Show" in task bar and then I can continue the show but still no
"Presenter View". Any ideas why Presenter View is not showing on my screen.

It sounds like you previously had your multiple monitor setup to "mirror"
which is the same image on both monitors. Now you have an "extended desktop"
where both monitors act as one large monitor (ie. you can move you mouse
from one monitor to the next). In addition you PPT's settings under SET UP
SHOW have the setting to display show on SECONDARY MONITOR (which is only
available with a computer with monitors configured to extended desktop
mode).

Solution is to go to:
1) START >> CONTROL PANEL >> DISPLAY >> SETTING tab >> and depending on your
graphics card you need to turn off the extended desktop feature (if using an
ATI graphics card, click the 2nd monitor icon and uncheck the 'Extend my
windows desktop onto this monitor' option.
2) Using your laptops toggle buttons (usually the FN/Function button and
F4), toggle to switch modes from extended to mirror.

Most probably the security settings were modified by Windows Update. Verify
the following:
1. Select "Tools" | "Macro" | "Security..." menu item.
2. Select "Trusted Sources" tab.
3. There should be a check against "Trust all installed add-ins and
templates" box. If its not there, then place it and restart PowerPoint.

Troy, I will try this solution the next time I'm at the church. Thanks for
your help!

I have dual monitors (desktop extended). Everything works properly when "show
presenter view" is unchecked. However, when "show presenter view" is
checked, a Powerpoint error box comes up and says "Powerpoint has encountered
an error and needs to close."

Any idea on how to resolve this issue?
