Presentation we're working on, and saving regularly, reverted!

It reverted to the version we had started working on at the beginning of the
day! In spite of constant saves, it's the exact same earlier version we
started the day off with and modified twenty times. The modifications are
gone!! We are not working on a LAN or sharing. How do we stop this from
happening again, get changes back. PowerPoint 2003 on XP SP2. Pentium 3.2
machine. Please help!!!

Hi Nate,

Makes you scream when this type stuff happens, but I'd check some stuff
before studying the drag coefficient of an airborne XP system. I'm working
on the assumption that you are true when saying the file was opened from the
local hard drive and not a network (or removable media of any kind).

First, do a find for PPT files created/modified today (or more exactly,
between yesterday and tomorrow) on your local hard drive. It is possible
that the file was saved with a different name/path on the hard drive and
just isn't getting pointed to correctly.

Check if anyone saved the file to a network drive, then forgot to
mention/update it to you (so now the current file is off-drive).

Check for TMP files of approximately the correct size created/modified
today, you might get lucky.

Check if it may be showing as under review (check the markup box and see if
changes are notated).

Post back if these don't find the file for you.

First, go here and make the suggested changes. Be sure to do the one about
getting Windows to show file extensions.

Do this before using PowerPoint seriously
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm

Next, let us know the *exact* answers to:

What's the name you saved your file to?
How did you save it?
To what folder?
Do you have any sort of content or document management software installed?

Have you applied Office 2003 SP1? Check Help, About in PowerPoint to find out.
If not, you'll want to do that. Help, Check For Updates should take you
there.

No trace! The file size is 50K. I was using the fast save option. When I
saved it to another name the resulting file is 40K. I think it is on the
original file, layered on top of the original. Can I get at all that was
added/saved to the original file today?

Nate, it's unclear which of several responses you're replying to and which
suggestions you have/haven't seen or tried.

Bottom line, I was saving it under the regular save and then, the day of the
disaster, choose fast save. I downloaded as recommended Office SP1 and XP
Office SP3. I am now up to date and using regular save, saving twice daily to
a different file name and feel this workaround will keep things Ok. Lost time
2 hrs-could be worse. Thank you. Nate
