Prescott and XP SP2

M

Melissa Porter

My system is a Dell Dimension 4600, with BIOS at the highest available
level.

It's my understanding that a Prescott processor with a revision level of
less than 8 will not work with XP SP2.

I ran Intel's Processor Frequency ID Utility and received the info below,
which didn't really answer the question since the rev level is shown as a
letter and not a number. I've been told that "C" is hex code. I've tried to
find verification of this on Intel, Microsoft, and Dell websites with no
luck. Email queries resulted in a non-answer from MS and no responses at all
from Dell or Intel.

Can someone here please tell me whether or not I can safely install SP2 on
this system? Thanks.

Hi

Yes, the "C" is in hex (hexadecimal), and is the same as decimal 12,
so this processor does not have an issue with SP2.

Hexadecimal to decimal conversion table:

0 to 9 is the same
A = 10
B = 11
C = 12
D = 13
E = 14
F = 15
