presario s3190uk digital video capture - doesn't

Hi, i have got a year old presario s3190uk pc. I also have a canon
mv300 digital camcorder. The computer has a firewire connection on the
back which i have connected to the appropriate port on the camera. It
don't werk! Any ideas? Do i need a video capture card? Bloody
technolgy! bring back 8mm cine!

And you turned the camcorder on and to VCR/VTR/Video mode (or whatever Canon
call it?) No version of Windows can see a device that is turned off.

Yes we, me and my bro, did that! In win explorer when we plug in a digi
still camera it appears as a new drive, the camcorder definitely did not.

In movie maker we had the camera going, pressed capture video and it came up
with an error message along the lines of can't recognise device (something
like that)
