Prepare slides with a "fill in the blanks" format?

I am looking for a way to quickly prepare files which initially appear with
blanks in the text which can be filled in one by one with audience
participation. I am able to do it by having a separate text box for each
blank, with animation making them visible as desired but the preparation time
for each presentation is unacceptable. Is there a simpler way? Perhaps a
macro to make only selected words in a sentence change color?

You can use hyperlinks with color schemes as described in this tutorial:

or triggers (also described)
or you can click on View, Toolbars, Control Toolbox and insert a text box
that you can type in during your slideshow.
