Preparation for Vista

Running XP Home SP2; Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor indicated that Norton
System Work and Norton AntiVirus 2006 are not compatible with Vista and to
remove them. Symantec website indicated that the Norton AntiVirus 2007 is OK
for Vista so:
1) Removed System Work
2) Removed Antivurus 2006
3) Installed Antivirus 2007
All operations were executed successfully.
Now when Windows starts most times, but not always, I get the following
error message "Windows - No Disk There is no disk in the drive. Please
insert a disk into drive." [Cancel - Try Again - Continue]
After clicking the "Continue" button 3/4 times the message disappears and
Windows continues working without any apparent problems.

I have previously done 2 others similar upgrades to other office PCs with no
problems; what can possibly have happened and how can I resolve this issue
permanently.

Do you have a floppy disk?

My recollection of similar Microsoft\Symantec problems when XP was released
was that you had to remove all the Norton Products, install the new OS and
only then install the new AV
Perhaps the same procedure would work for Vista?

I suggest that you go to the Symantec site, download the Norton Uninstall
tool, then uninstall the AV, run the Norton uninstaller. If you still have
the boot problem do a Windows repair and when you have a good installation
install the Norton AV if you wish. (Personally I would use ZoneAlarm or
Microsoft AV)
Good Luck

Replace the floppy with a known working one and see if it doesn't solve
the problem. If you don't have one handy, disconnect it and see if that
solves the problem. At less than 5 bucks a pop, replacing it, if
defective, would be really cheap!

totally uninstall everything NORTON, they have an uninstaller on their web site.
not compatible with vista.

use avast instead for virus program.

norton has had 5 years to make their programs compatible with vista and now all they want to do is complain that microsoft has locked them out.

Mike is right.

I advise all my clients to avoid all Symantec products, it is a dying company living on the reputation of the original founder, peter Norton, who knew what hew was doing. They don't .

I'll never buy Symantec again.
Drive Image, another great program has been destroyed.
I bought the upgrade to it last year, Ghost 10 & it hasn't successfully
restored a single image in XP.
Never again.
Luckily, Vista Ultimate has image backup built in which works great.

You do not want to have any antivirus, antispyware, firewall, disk utility,
system utility, or any program that directly accesses the Windows kernel
installed while upgrading from XP to Vista. If you are going to upgrade to
Vista then uninstall NAV 2007 before upgrading. This means if you are going
to upgrade to Vista it's pointless to troubleshoot getting it running in XP.

My recommendation is to leave it uninstalled and install a different AV
after you have done the upgrade but that is a personal opinion only.

As much as I agree with your assessment of how poor Symantec's products are,
I disagree with the the statement that they are a dying company. As far as I
can see, they are doing very well. And unfortunately, they have many
customers who think they are the best producers of the kinds of products
they make.
