Premature Shutdown

This is a new installation. I have IE 6.0 and have
installed WXP SP1. When accessing Windows Update site to
install patches, etc, I get the following message:

"Workstation is being shutdown by NT AUTHORITY \ SYSTEM
because of problem encountered with C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 32
\LSASS.EXE file. Error code: 1073741819

It seems that the lsass.exe is crashing, it can be caused my the sasser worm. Update your antivirus software and scan your PC.

You have the highly-publicized Sasser worm, which you got by
running without a firewall, and by not installing the Microsoft
critical updates.

First go to Start | Run and type shutdown -a

That will stop it from shutting down.

Then get the W32.Sasser Removal Tool (Line 321) Right hand side)

Thanks for the prompt reply. I have just downloaded the
instructions and files necessary to get rid of the sasser
worm and to install antivirus software on the PC.

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Make sure you install a firewall too.
