Prefetch not working!?!?

Adam

My windows XP prefetch folder is totally empty! It has
been for about a week now I guess. I was wondering if
anyone knew how I could fix it so it actually does
prefetch files. I downloaded a programme that
enables/disables it, and I used it to enable it, but
apparently it was never disabled because it still doesn't
work. Anyone know what's wrong, or had this problem
before? Any help would be good, I would like a faster
startup time. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Adam,

Check the EnablePrefetcher under this key in the registry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory

It should be set to 3.

I have tried enabling the prefetcher in the registry. It
was already set to 3. Just for kicks I did change it from
0-3 and tried each one. Not any of the settings make
windows prefetch start up programmes, or opened
programmes. If anyone knows anything else, any help would
be appreciated. Thanks

Is the task scheduler service running ?
This is needed for prefetch file creation.
