Prefetch File help

I recently visited accuweather website. It began a

download that never finished. Now whenever I click on IE
to open, it goes directly back to the download. It
evidently installed a "Prefetch File" called Iexplore.exe-
2712234.pf. I would like IE to return to normal. I tried
a system restore to yesterday date, and it failed. I
don't know any other way to get rid of this file. It does
not show in add/remove programs or on the task manager.
Any ideas? Could a restore to last known good
configuration be the only answer?

If this is the wrong section, any suggestions where I go
from here?

Prefetch doesn't factor into the problem you describe.
The .PF file contains data on the application's code &
how it is loaded from the disk. After time this data is
used to place specific modules in a contiguous space on
your drive to speed-up boot and application start times.
What you need to do is dump your IE cache folder.
Open IE, Click Tools, Internet Options - locate the box
Delete files and click. You should also answer Yes to the
question of deleting off-line content as well.

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and check all of these paths. If it is listed,
delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
