PPThumbs.ptn?

What is the file "PPThumbs.ptn" that keeps popping up in many larger files?
I've peculiarly lost a file with lots of pictures (working in Word), and is
there any possibility it's a backup file of some kind? How do I use it or o
pen it?

The PPTThumbs.ptn files are created by Scansoft's (now Nuance's) Paperport products.
You may want to check with the folks at http://scansoft.com in their support forums for additional information. Were you trying to
insert those files into a Word document?
