PPT slideshow plays back black media window w/ sound

PPT 2003 / Win XP Home SP1 - I insert a movie clip from file, when I attempt
to playback, I get sound, but a static black screen in stead of the video.
On Austin's advice I tested my clips with the MCI Media Player. They would
not play. Rather, the play window displays "Video not available, cannot find
'vidsIVX' decompressor" (interestingly, same error message I get in PPT
when I try to insert a movie clip through "Insert - Object"). What might be
the best fix for a media newbie.

powerpoint needs the "divx" codex to de-compress the video clip before it
can play it back.
