PPS files viewed in older version of PowerPoint

If an email is set out with a pps file attached, the user must first
have PowerPoint to use the file - is that correct?

And secondly, if the user has an older version of PowerPoint and wants
to view the pps file, will they only be able to view the capabilities
of PowerPoint according to the version they are using?

So for example, if I use complex animations and transparent png files,
and the person receiving the pps file via email has PowerPoint 2000
installed. Will they be able to see everything - or only what 2000 can
view?

The recipients do not neccessary need PowerPoint to view your file. He/She
can download the PowerPoint Viewer to view the file, but won't be able to
edit them.

For recipients with older versions of PowerPoint, they will need to download
PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view complex animations. And yes, if they view it
with PowerPoint 2000 and below, some complex animations will be replaced by
Appear effect and etc.

PowerPoint Viewer 2003 is free for download at Microsoft.com. You can check
this out for more information. Hope it helps:

Missed out the exe part. You can also create standalone .exe which includes
the viewer. In this way, recipients do not need to download the viewer
manually.
