PPC Emulator Debugging

Sorry, I know this has come up a lot of times, and believe me, I've seen
most of the replies in the newsgroup as I've tried to figure out the
problem...

When debugging Smart Device Application in VS.Net, the app is deployed to
the emulator. However, VS then hangs at the Launching Application stage.
Sometimes I get an error saying something along the lines of 'Unable to debug
xxx' (sorry, can't seem to get that message back at the moment!).

After looking through the newsgroups I've tried :
- Installing Microsoft Loopback Adapter. Has had no effect, and the
development PC is networked anyway so shouldn't be the issue.
- Installation of ActiveSync 3.7.1. This allowed me to communicate with
the physical device (and debug on it), but still no debugging on the emulator
- Installation of Windows CE Utilities
- Installation of Emulator ActiveSync - allows ActiveSync to connect to the
Emulator. Connection using this seems to be very hit and miss and I haven't
figured out what conditions allow/disallow connection. It doesn't solve the
debugging problem either.
- Checking Toolhelp.dll and WCELoad.exe are present on the emulator. They
seem to be by default so nothing doing here.
- Reinstallation/repair of everything. Reinstallation of VS 2003 and all
of the above apps in the required order. Annoyingly, didn't solve the
problem.
- Trawled around W2K3 server security settings to see if there was any
firewall/port blocking going on. Didn't find anything.

I've also tried the debugging on an XP machine and it worked first time! I
think it is down to either
- Windows 2003 Server security settings preventing comms between VS and the
emalator. On the XP machine, the Norton firewall shows that two TCP requests
are made just after the 'Launching Application' message appears in VS. If I
block these, I get the 'Unable to debug' message. If I permit, debugging
works.
- Speed of the W2K3 server machine. Is there a timeout for the VS <->
emulator comms?

Any help would be appreciated before I forget about emulator debugging...

Thanks for the suggestion Dan. I've tried the 2003 emulators as well. They
didn't work either. It's bizarre that debugging will work on the device
(connected by serial cable) but not the emulator...

Hello Newsgroup-members,

I can only confirm the above mentioned problem, I I could, I would like to
bomb the emulator to the moon.

The emulator works find ewhen you are connected to a ethernet and working on
this ethernet connection. as soon as you simly chance to another ethernet,
the emulator is starting, but debugging is not possible !
Of course, you can start the appliaction on the emulator, but NOT debugging !
Installation of the newet PPC-2003 SDK is not a solution....
Anybody has a working solution ???????

IF it's works....we will send a bunch of swiss chocolate !!!!
