PP2003 master title style not applied

In PowerPoint 2003, I have a custom design template in which I set the master
title style to 32pt (Arial) in the slide master. I create a new slide (by
clicking the New Slide button or by clicking Insert > New Slide), and when I
click in the title space, the cursor is placed and the font size is 32pt. As
soon as I type the first character in the title, the font size changes to
28pt and the entire title text is set at 28pt.

Out of curiosity I tried repeating these steps with the master set to 28pt
and the result in a new slide was a reduction to 24pt.

Then, curiouser and curiouser, I tried the same 2 exercises in PowerPoint
2000 and the slide title text remained as set in the slide master (which is
the behavior I want).

Does anyone know of a workaround or trick to avoid or fix this problem?

Once you made the changes to the Master, Did you save it as a Template file
(.POT)? Did you apply your new template to you current presentation? Have
all the updates for your 2003 been applied?

You cannot avoid using Template (.POT) files. Every presentation is based on
a template (.POT) file. If you make changes to any Master, whether it be
Slide/Title Master, Handout Master or Notes Master. If you do not save it as
a template file all your changes will be lost.

| 1. No, I am avoiding using the POT because it consistently does NOT apply
| the Notes Master custom design/layout. (See
|
http://www.microsoft.com/office/com...e-powerpoint&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1)
|
| 2. I have applied all the PowerPoint 2003 updates that I could find as of
| 3/8/06, (all contained in SP2).

Try: Tools, AutoCorrect Options, AutoFormat As You Type tab, remove checks next
to the two "AutoFit xxx text to placeholder" items and click OK.

Does that help?

To expand on Michael's post:

Changes to the slide master will affect only the current presentation, not other
presntations based on the same template (POT file) or other presentations
created from that template later.

I get the impression that you understand and expect this though.
