Powerpoint viewer 2003 and embedded windows media

Hi,

I am designing a CD-ROM in PPT2003, and wanted to play Windows media
movies with the full controls found in windows media player 9. Thus
far I have found the only way to do this is to embed the windows movie
as an object.

This works great in PPT of course, and everything is fully functional.
However, what if I want to distribute this to users who may not have
PPT, and who have to rely on the PPT2003 viewer? Will these embedded
windows movies not work?

The other alternative of just having them as linked movies seems to
mean they sit there with no controls, so the viewer can't skip ahead,
go back, pause, alter volume etc. Not great! Another alternative is
having links to files that open up the user's windows player as a
separate window outside PPT, but unfortunately this isn't really a
satisfactory solution either!

I have already had the disappointment of discovering that embedded
Flash can't be displayed in the PPTviewer, so this latest thing is
causing me a lot of concern about my project. I have considered
switching to Macromedia Director, but then that program has its own
issues with using Windows media and obviously involves a more
complicated process.
