PowerPoint - View on Office XP Student / Teacher Edition

B

Betty

My son purchased and my husband installed this weekend
the Office XP Student / Teacher Edition. He put together
a PowerPoint presentation just for the heck of trying to
put one together. When he goes to view the show it does
nothing. He e-mailed his powerpoint to me and I open it
and view it on my computer with no problem at all.

Does anyone have any idea of what we need to look at to
see why he cannot view the show.

We appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thanks

My first move would be to update the video drivers on the non-showing
machine. Then head to MS for any Windows and Office updates, and finally
update your version of DirectX for your OS.

Betty, can you clarify "do nothing"? If no show is opening on his
computer, he may have PPT set up to show on another monitor.

If this is the case, let us know and someone will be along with details
on how to change that.

If it's just not moving, or things aren't displaying correctly, then
Austin's advice is where to start.

I want to thank you both for your help. My husband did
find that the show was set up to go to another monitor.
We are not sure why that setting was in place, but it now
works fine. Thanks for your quick response.

Hello Betty,

As Echo explained, there is no way for PowerPoint to know if a secondary
display is plugged in or not (only if the secondary monitor setting is
enabled for extended desktop in the Display control panel) so, if the
system tells PowerPoint that mutiple monitors are enabled, PowerPoint
defaults to displaying the slide show on the secondary monitor (the mostly
likely display port to which an external monitor or project would be
connected).

Of course, if you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly
PowerPoint should provide some kind of feature for recoverying from this
scenario which we cannot avoid (perhaps by providing a toolbar/button in
the primary displays that indicates on which display the slide show is
running and an option to switch to the primary display (without having to
end the show, change the set up show options and restart), don't forget to
send your feedback to Microsoft at:

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also why it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
