PowerPoint stops responding

S

Stephane

We found out today that PowerPoint 2002 is crashing like
crazy in all of our WinXP and OfficeXP installations.

When we modify an existing presentation (like removing
text) the cursor freeze (CPU usage goes up at 100%) and
PowerPoint stops responding. We have to close the
application by force.

The same thing happens after a while in a new
presentation.

As of now, we have tried reinstalling OfficeXP, Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article - 823825 and STW with no luck.

TIA!

About the only thing I've seen do this is Norton Anti-Virus. Any chance
that you are using it?

Hmmm,

Are the files stored locally or are they on a server by chance?

The only other suggestion I'd make is to make certain you have the latest
version of DirectX installed AFTER installing the SPs.

Nice detective work, Stephane.

So, SP2, huh?

Austin asked about Norton, and I see you're not using it. Perhaps
another antivirus program could cause similar issues?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q328613 for
specifics on the Norton thing...maybe you can try disabling your
antivirus program and see if that changes anything.

Any chance you need the multilingual user interface pack?

Finally, and I'd say these are kind of a long shot, but try changing
hardware acceleration (instrux at
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00129.htm) and updating the video
drivers. Also make sure a printer driver is available on the machines
(not only on a server). http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00034.htm
