Powerpoint stopped opening in full auto slide show from email

Hi I wonder if anybody can help, my Office 2007 is installed on 2 computers,
laptop and desktop(both Vista Home Premium) now on laptop all powerpoint
attachements open direct into full screen slideshow but on desktop for some
reason its stopped doing this and the pps ext doesn't even show now as a
recognised program(usually has the powerpoint icon in it, does on laptop not
on desktop it's a blank white picture) when I click on it to open it now it
will only show in the powerpoint window where you make them and I have to
choose slideshow option. Not sure why this has happened and tried everything
can think of. On default programs it shows as opening in Microsoft Office
Powerpoint but no longer opens in the auto slideshow however if I choose
Powerpoint Viewer it opens directly from email in full screen slideshow but
as soon as I put it back to Microsoft Office Powepoint it retuns to the small
window where you create presentations.

I've tried uninstalling Powerpoint from office and reinstalling still no joy
won't open in full screen slideshow anymore :-( Know this is only small thing
but really annoying as to why does laptop know instantly what it is and
desktop now doesn't know how to do this?

Thanks,

Debbie,

Rats. Now we have to think about it! I've got Vista so blowed if I know
where the associations are now. Have you installed nay kind of program that
may have hacked into your file associations?

Glen,

Had another look for the file in the link you gave me previously and when
you look for that file it says powerpoint.exe.manifest nothing about
regserver do I have to change the manifest bit to say /regserver? Will this
fix it, as sent same files to a friend who has same office suite I have and
she gets the error message and can't even open them and don't want to give
her link to file until am sure how to change it for vista.

Thanks,
Debbie

Hi,

Find a pps file and right click on it. Select the "properties" menu item.
There is a button on the "General" tab beside the Opens with text that reads
"Change". Now, a dialog box will pop up, and it might already say PowerPoint
is selected. Ignore that and click on the "browse" button. It should default
to the program Files folder. Look for and select Microsoft Office| then
"Office12" | and select "POWERPNT.EXE". Click OK enough times to get out and
see if that fixes it.

If that fails, we can go onto the next step.

Hi Glen,

Just tried that and still opens in the editing/making a presentation saying
in brackets(comapatiability mode) it just seems to point blank refuse to open
in full screen mode and will only, it appears, to allow those made or
converted to the new 2007 to open in auto full screen mode which is annoying.
Found a button near bottom that allows me to show it in full screen mode but
doesn't explain why it doesn't seem to recognise it as one that should open
with Powerpoint in full screen. Bet this is causing you a lot of headaches as
seen a few posts now will similar problems with older type files. My friend
can't even open it says not recognised and not associated with a program but
have told her to check the default programs bit but if you can help me fix
mine I can then pass it on and fix hers as we have the same office suite and
both running vista home premium 32 bit.

Thanks,

Debbie

Hi Debbie,

I reckon you will have to call Microsoft Product Support. They will be able
to walk through what is happening step by step. Sorry I can't help
further.... I know it can get frustrating.

Hi Glen,

Thanks so much for your help and what I did in the end was change it so that
PPS and PPT files open with Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer(from 2003) and it
still says powerpoint in the file recognition icon but now it's set to open
with the viewer it opens straight into the full screen mode. I'm beginning to
wonder if another post is right and it was one of the updates that did it and
maybe my toshiba didn't install that particular one for some reason either
way at least now mine works and as for my friend will tell her to do the same
and then they'll open hopefully.

Thanks for all your help and it's one of those things it's a small thing but
annoying when it used to work now it doesn't but think some of these
"updates" cause more problems than they supposedly fix.
