I am very interested in purchasing PowerPoint 2002 for my
office at work but have a couple of questions regarding
security.

1. Is it true that in Version 2000 there is no way to
lock a presentation.
2. Is it true that this is possible in Version 2002. If
so, how is the security set up? This is what I need.
a. lock presentation with a password
b. locked version allows user to delete slides (but
not change them)

Thanks for your help.

In PowerPoint 2002 you can assign a password to a presentation that
prohibits anyone from editing, renaming, or saving a presentation file.
That includes prohibiting them from deleting slides. However, the
presentation can only be opened for viewing in PowerPoint 2002 and 2003, and
the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer. Users of PowerPoint 2000 and 97 won't be able
to open or view the file unless they download the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer and
use it.

Liz, what Sonia said.

Just to be specific, though, PPT 2002's password
protection will not allow you to protect slides from
being changed while still allowing slides to be deleted.

You might want to check
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00038.htm for some
additional options in PPT 2000.
