Powerpoint freezing with visio

Hi.. I have a user who is using office 2003 sp3 on xp sp2. About once a
month his powerpoint stops responding and uses 100% of his CPU.. this seems
to happen to documents with embedded visio objects. The only way to fix it
is to rename the office reg key and reinstall office. This is then fine for a
month or so but then will reoccur. Anyone heard of this happening?

Also forgot to mention.. he is on his 3rd pc. The last one is a different
model to the first 2

Wow, this is not one I've heard of. I wonder if the Office plug-in of your
antivirus is coming into play here? Did you try disabling that?

Its weird huh? I'm not 100% sure what you mean. We use Symantec and have
looked in the front end options there. Most of it is greyed out as its
pretty locked down. Checked macro security in ppt and its set to low with no
virus stuff installed. Do you think the plug in part of the anti virus could
be on the server end?

Hi Steve,

Yes thats what happens, however, it never comes back. We've left it hanging
for an hour or so and it just dies. Apparently there is another guy who has
now left who use to have the same problem, so maybe its something in our
build?

Thank Echo, but we are actually running Symantec and not Norton :(

I understand, but Norton AV is the consumer-grade version of the corporate
Symantec products. If I had this problem, I'd be checking for the Office
plug-in as my first troubleshooting step.
