PowerPoint embedded Excel Error

John1

I am experiencing a problem with some computers.

Trying to open and embedded Excel file won't work nor trying to insert
another object. It seems that another installed sofware limited this
capability.

This are the message obtained.

First:
Microsoft Office PowerPoint can't start the application required to open
this object.
An error ocurred and this feature is no longer funtioning properly. Would
you like to
repair this feature now?

If you press "yes"

Second: A progress bar appear showing the following message:
Installing: Application server.

Third:

The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an
unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server application.

I found one response elsewhere that mentioned a problem with Norton
Antivirus, however, even after removing Norton and installing McAfee, the
problem remains.

Any other suggestions

I have exactly the same issue with MSO 2003 and SP3 installed. Been trawling
the web for hours looking for a solution. None of these suggestions have
helped me unfortunately. I've completely removed and reinstalled a couple of
times now however issue persists. Please post if you come up with something.

Scott.

Did you disable Norton's Office DLL?

There's a LOT of stuff listed on the first link I posted --
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00236.htm -- you tried all of that already?
